REDHAWK MENS GOLF CLUB

Welcome to New Members

The Redhawk Mens Club is a club for golfers wishing to keep a handicap and/or participate in regular tournaments at the Redhawk Golf Course.  The Club is open to all, and despite the name, inclusion means girls, women, and boys who wish to establish an official handicap.  The tournaments themselves are limited to people using the mens tees.

SCGA Relations

Redhawk golf course is a member club of the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA), which is recognized by the United States Golf Association (USGA).  When you join, you become an individual member of the SCGA.  As such you receive a handicap that is recognized world-wide; actually required at some Scottish & European golf courses.  You will receive an identification number from the SCGA & you also get a packet of stuff that the SCGA thinks you need or want.

Communication & Privacy

Your personal information as submitted on the SCGA application is not shared.  The golf course holds it privately, as does the SCGA.  In all email communication from the Mens Club the address is hidden in the BCC: format so your address will not be shared.  Having said that, there is a need for communication from the club, the course, and the SCGA from time to time, so some form of communication is needed, and the preferred form is the email address.  But at least a phone number.

Handicap Responsibility

The SCGA and the Mens Club take handicapping very seriously.  Accuracy & honesty are critical.  Therefore there is provision for peer review, established by the SCGA, of your scores.  They will be publicly posted for all members.  And the Club conducts all tournaments accurately in accordance with the rules of the SCGA/USGA, & expects the same for all posted scores.

Posting

All completed rounds of golf are to be posted to your personal handicap history, regardless of the score and the course on which it was achieved.  The golfer is individually responsible for posting his rounds.  Further the SCGA practices Equitable Stroke Control or ESC.  See your packet from the SCGA for further information, or send an email to a Mens Club Director.  Any shop employee will happily help with the posting process, which can be done at the shop or home.

Tournaments

Regular Redhawk Mens Club tournaments are conducted Tuesdays, at 8AM in the Summer and 9AM in the Winter.  Prize awards for Gross Score, Net Score, and Closest to the Pin on par holes.  Additionally the 3rd tournament each month is some unusual and/or team event, just to keep things interesting.

The course provides free range balls each Tuesday by 1 hour before the tournament.  Also please be ready to leave the golf cart area by 10 minutes before the start time to allow travel to the assigned reverse shotgun tee locations generally holes 16, 17, 18 & 1.

Prizes

Prizes won in a tournament are scrip, which is issued and redeemable in the Shop.  The scrip can be used for everything in the Shop or lessons with Steve Adamiak (steveadamiak@hotmail.com) or other of the teaching professionals.  The Shop also offers discounts see the course folks for more information.

Each tournament entry includes a prize fee.  The regular event fee is $5, the monthly tournament fee is $10.  The Club makes no profit all fees are returned to members through prizes.  The Course offers a generous low price for the Greens Fee.

Entry

It is appreciated that any golfer intending to participate in a tournament notify the Tournament Director (TD), a club volunteer, by Sunday preceding, preferably by email.  The current TD is Jim Schoonmaker at jschoonmaker@msn.com.   Some members play very regularly so are on a regulars list.  These people are assumed to be entered unless they advise the TD otherwise.  If you are not able to notify ahead of time feel free to show up and you will be assigned available openings.

Local Rules

There are a variety of local rules concerning Out of Bounds, Wood Pilings, Drains, & Water Hazards.  See the web site for the details.

Courtesy

Courtesy, including pace of play, is required.  Golf course courtesies are important and expected.  If in doubt please ask a member or a Shop employee.  There is a dress standard to be maintained as well.

The Club

The Mens Club is operated by a Board of Directors.  These folks are NOT course employees or affiliates necessarily.  The Board consists of 9 volunteers.  See the web site for more info.

Membership in the Club is renewed each December, per the SCGA schedule.

All members are listed in the member list along with their current index & handicap.  Any member handicap is available for review by anyone part of the peer review.  No personal info is given.
