REDHAWK MENS GOLF CLUB

Welcome to New Members

This has been prepared for new members, but will be available for existing members on-line at the mens club web site at http://www.redhawkmensclub.com/ under the How to Join tab.  Even if you choose not to join in the competition at the club, you have rights and responsibilities with your membership.

The Redhawk Mens Club is a club for golfers wishing to keep a handicap and/or participate in regular tournaments at the Redhawk Golf Course.  The Club is open to all, and despite the name, inclusion means girls, women, and boys who wish to establish an official handicap.  The tournaments themselves are limited to people using the mens tees.

SCGA Relations

Redhawk golf course is a member club of the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA), which is recognized by the United States Golf Association (USGA).  When you join, you become an individual member of the SCGA.  As such you receive a handicap that is recognized world-wide; actually required at some Scottish & European golf courses.  You will receive an identification number from the SCGA & you also get a packet of stuff that the SCGA thinks you need or want.

Communication & Privacy

Your personal information as submitted on the SCGA application is not shared.  The golf course holds it privately, as does the SCGA.  In all email communication from the Mens Club the address is hidden in the BCC: format so your address will not be shared.  Having said that, there is a need for communication from the club, the course, and the SCGA from time to time, so some form of communication is needed, and the preferred form is the email address.  But at least a phone number.

Handicap Responsibility

The SCGA and the Mens Club take handicapping very seriously.  Accuracy & honesty are critical.  Therefore there is provision for peer review, established by the SCGA, of your scores.  They will be publicly available to all members.  And the Club conducts all tournaments accurately in accordance with the rules of the SCGA/USGA, & expects the same for all posted scores.

Posting

All completed rounds of golf are to be posted to your personal handicap history, regardless of the number and the course on which it was achieved.  The golfer is individually responsible for posting his rounds.  Further the SCGA practices Equitable Stroke Control or ESC.  See your packet from the SCGA for further information, or send an email to a Mens Club Director.  Any shop employee will happily help with the posting process, which can be done at the shop or home.

Tournaments

Regular Redhawk Mens Club tournaments are conducted Tuesdays, at 8AM in the Summer and 9AM in the Winter.  Prize awards for Gross Score, Net Score, and Closest to the Pin on par holes.  Additionally the 3rd tournament each month is some unusual and/or team event, just to keep things interesting.

The course provides free range balls each Tuesday by 1 hour before the tournament.  Also please be ready to leave the golf cart area by 10 minutes before the start time to allow travel to the assigned reverse shotgun tee locations generally holes 16, 17, 18 & 1.

Prizes

Prizes won in a tournament are scrip, which is issued and redeemable in the Shop.  The scrip can be used for everything in the Shop or lessons with Steve Adamiak (steveadamiak@hotmail.com) or other of the teaching professionals.  The Shop also offers discounts see the course folks for more information.

Each tournament entry includes a prize fee.  The regular event fee is $5, the monthly tournament fee is $10.  The Club makes no profit all fees are returned to members through prizes.  The Course offers a generous low price for the Greens Fee.

Entry

It is appreciated that any golfer intending to participate in a tournament notify the Tournament Director (TD), a club volunteer, by Sunday preceding, preferably by email.  The current TD is Jim Schoonmaker at jschoonmaker@msn.com.   Some members play very regularly so are on a regulars list.  These people are assumed to be entered unless they advise the TD otherwise.  If you are not able to notify ahead of time feel free to show up and you will be assigned available openings.

Local Rules

There are a variety of local rules concerning Out of Bounds, Wood Pilings, Drains, & Water Hazards.  See the web site for the details.

Courtesy

Courtesy, including pace of play, is required.  Golf course courtesies are important and expected.  If in doubt please ask a member or a Shop employee.  There is a dress standard to be maintained as well.

The Club

The Mens Club is operated by a Board of Directors.  These folks are NOT course employees or affiliates necessarily.  The Board consists of 9 volunteers.  See the web site for more info.

Membership in the Club is renewed each December, per the SCGA schedule.

All members are listed in the member list along with their current index & handicap.  Any member handicap is available for review by anyone part of the peer review.  No personal info is given.

RULES OF COMPETITION

March 2011

TEES PLAYED

There is only one flight of players.  All members will play from the white tee monument markers.

COMPETITIONS

There is a $5 buyin for weekly competitions & $10 for the once a month special tournaments.  Payoff is in Redhawk script.  Weekly contests include gross and net score and closest to the pin on par 3's.  Generally there will be more net prizes than gross prizes.  If you win gross, cannot win net.  Gross score takes precedent over net score but a player will always be awarded the highest paying prize. Monthly contests vary according to the tournament played.

HANDICAPS USED IN NET SCORE COMPETITIONS

All members will use their full handicap computed from the white tee. Scores will be recorded as white tee rounds.

SKIN COMPETITIONS

There will be one net skin pool, buyin is $5.  Participation in skins is optional.

HANDICAPS USED IN SKIN COMPETITIONS

For net skin competitions, which is optional, handicaps are limited to 18 strokes (14 if you don't count the par 3's).  However, a stroke on a par 3 is not allowed.

SIGNUP POLICY

Mar 2010

Members must be signed up to play by noon Monday.  You may sign up either as an individual or as a group if you wish to make your own foursome (or twosome, threesome).  (You must sign up as a team for monthly team play, see Teaming Policy below)

On the morning of play, you are required to check in with the Tournament Director one half hour prior to starting to confirm your spot and get ready to go to the tee.

Here are the ways to sign up:

1.             The Signup Sheet will be left in the pro shop during the week; you can sign up or call the pro shop any time until noon Monday.

2.             You can email Bob Antol anytime before noon Monday.

If you have not signed up ahead of time and just show up at the course, there is a good chance you will not get to play.

If you must cancel, you are obligated to either notify the pro shop or call or email Bob.

TEAMING POLICY FOR SPECIAL MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS

 May 2009

Once a month we have special tournaments.  Sometimes these are two or four man team events.  If you wish to participate, you must sign up as a team.  Only full teams will be allowed to play in the competition; if one partner does not show, the rest of the team will not be eligible for the competition.  Individuals or partial teams will only be eligible for the skins game and for any skill competitions.

If you do not have a team, there will be a “Looking for a Partner” sheet on the bulletin board.  You are welcome to put your name there or to contact other guys who have already done so.  However, it is your responsibility to assemble the team and to sign up as a team.

For regular weekly dates, you can continue to sign up either as a group or as a single.

CARDOFF PROCEDURE

Excluding the Club Championship, the recommended USGA procedure will be used by the current Tournament Director to determine a Net or Gross winner. This procedure will be used in lieu of a playoff and will only be used to determine a first place winner.

A Gross winner  is determined on the basis of the best score over the last nine holes.  For both Gross and Net, the last nine holes are always holes 10 through 18. If the tying players have the same gross score for the last nine, determine the winner on the basis of the last six holes, last 3 holes and finally the 18th hole.

A Net winner is determined by taking half of the tying player’s handicap and comparing the resulting net score over the last nine holes. If the tying players have the same net score for the last nine, determine the winner by deducting one-third of  the player’s handicap for the last six holes, or one-sixth of the player’s handicap over the last three holes.

Ties for second place and remaining places will share equally.

Examples:

Three places are in question.

One player is low net and two are tied for second low net.

There is no card-off.

The two players tied for second low net share second and third net.

Three places are in question.

Three players are tied for first low net.

The card-off procedure determines first low net and the two remaining players share second and third low net.

Four places are in question.

Two players are tied for first low net and two players are tied for second low net.

The card-off procedure determines first low net, the remaining player gets second low net.

The remaining two players share third and fourth low net.

HOLE IN ONE INSURANCE

If anyone gets a hole in one during a Mens Club event, it is customary to pick up the Rico's bar bill after the round of golf.  Optional 'hole in one' insurance is available.  If covered, you will get paid in cash whatever amount is in the "hole in one kitty" for a verified hole in one during Mens Club events. Cost is $5 payable at signup and also whenever a  hole in one is paid off.  If interested, signup and pay Tai Kreider.
